My Bataan Memorial Death March

Each year White Sands Missile Range hosts a marathon length march in commemoration of the Bataan Death March. I had hoped to participate this year, however I didn't feel comfortable with the amount of training I've done. The longest hike I had taken in months was about five miles or so. Also the fact that I spent a good amount of money this month for tickets to the WAC tournament (go Aggies!) meant that I had nothing in my budget for the entry fee. Next year I hope to be in better shape and plan it in advance.

I decided to do my own Death March this weekend by hiking the full length twice (crossing the pass and back) of the Baylor Canyon Trail in the Organ Mountains. That worked out to about 10.8 miles with a significant altitude change.

This is what I mean by open spaces.
